RUHLMAN/HENRY/BURCH
RULE ELDORA
ROSSBURG,
OH (April 19) – In a wild Saturday night of racing at Eldora Speedway, Brian
Ruhlman (Sunoco American Late Model Series), Jon Henry (Moser United Midwestern
Promoters Modifieds) and Bob Burch (Advance Auto Parts Stocks Cars) found their
way to victory lane.
Despite rains in the surrounding areas, and dipping temperatures, the track
management was able to pull the show off, with a full field of race cars
responding to the call.
Only one caution flag slowed the pace of the 11 preliminary heat races, as the
program was moving along at a record pace. From that point forward;
however, the dreaded full moon in the sky seemed to affect the action.
As the American Late Model Series (ALMS) 25-lap main event took to the track,
Aaron Scott was the first of the 22 starters to pace the field after a wild
front stretch crash on the initial start. On the ensuing restart,
Scott again took control with a lead that he was to hold for four circuits of
the one-half mile clay oval, before giving way to former Dirt Late Model Dream
winner Matt Miller.
Miller then held control for a pair of laps before another caution flag waved.
The yellow bunting was displayed for a pair of wall contacts – Ky Harper in
turn two and Wayne Chinn in turn three. Both cars suffered enough damage
to eliminate them from further competition.
Miller again took control through lap 12, when Hillard Miller spun wildly off of
turn four and came to an abrupt stop. Apparently Hillard had been struck
by debris, which broke his face shield. He was taken to
During the process of assisting Hillard Miller, Matt Miller suffered engine
problems and retired to the pit area; giving the lead and eventual victory to
Brian Ruhlman.
It was not a cake walk for Ruhlman, as behind him, Casey Noonan, the defending
victor of the race, was nosing in with a strong challenge. Aaron
Scott then regained his composure and came on strong to run side by side with
Noonan for several laps, before edging into runner-up position three laps from
the checkered flag.
The chase ended for him on the white flag as he drove above the cushion and
dropp0ed to fourth at the finish; allowing Noonan to regain runner-up honors,
with Tyler Boggs moving to third. Scott crossed the line fourth, but
was disqualified at the scales by UMP officials, for failing to meet the minimum
weight requirements. That moved Rusty Schlenk to fourth, with Steve
Casebolt fifth. Rick DeLong had originally been ahead of Schlenk and
Casebolt, but was penalized two positions at the finish for jumping on the
previous restart.
Attrition played an equal role in the Moser UMP Modified finale, as several
spins and a wild front stretch flip by Mike Roediger slowed the action.
There were no injuries in the action.
Doug Adkins took the early lead in the 17-lap night capper, with a position he
was to hold for three laps before giving way to young sensation Jon Henry, who
was coming off a Friday night victory at
With Henry in the lead, his ability to open the distance was halted by a massive
ten-car pile-up on lap six. Several cars were deleted in the melee.
With the action back underway, Henry again distanced himself between Adkins and
the balance of the field, while Ruhlman was doing double duty and moving
forward. He shot past Adkins on lap 10 and set his sights on Henry.
Henry was setting a torrid pace and Ruhlman wasn’t able to move in.
Roediger’s misfortune on lap 15 gave him one last shot at Henry, but the
The incredible night of attrition was not limited to those two mains, as the
Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars suffered their share, as well. While Bob
Burch was out front and flying, the action behind him was boggling.
Of the several incidents, a pair of flips by Jeff Babcock and Kyle Lennon were
the most devastating. Again, there were no injuries.
Kevin Gossard and Earnie Woodard waged a spirited duel for Burch’s supremacy,
but their battle between themselves slowed them enough to allow Burch to cruise
to the win. Gossard wound up with runner-up honors ahead of Woodard,
Mike Dirksen and Shawn Phillippi.

STEWART
SELECTS DREAM WEEKEND FOR MAJOR ELDORA ANNOUNCEMENT
ROSSBURG, OH
(April 15) – Tony Stewart, Eldora Speedway owner and two-time NASCAR Sprint
Cup champion has chosen Saturday night’s (June 7) opening ceremonies of the Dirt
Late Model Dream as the backdrop for a major announcement and
revelation.
“This is BIG, and unprecedented” commented Stewart, “and I can’t
wait”.
While he remains tight-lipped about what will transpire, he has hinted that it
centers around the rich heritage and history of Eldora Speedway, along with its
original and former owners, Earl and Berneice Baltes.
Continued Stewart, “the history of Eldora is legendary and unparalleled; this
announcement will be focused around it.”
Stewart selected the Dream because of its stature.
“The Dirt Late Model Dream is perfect. It has an impact among dirt
Late Model racing with its unequalled $100,000 to win payday, has a large field
of entrants and plays to a huge throng of loyal fans. I couldn’t
think of a better scene.”
He concluded with a quick, “this is one event you won’t want to miss, I
promise”.

UNABLE TO OUTSMART MOTHER NATURE TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW
ROSSBURG, OH (April 12) – Eldora Speedway escaped Mother Nature’s fury Friday night to kick off the World of Outlaw Sprint Car (WoO) doubleheader weekend, much to the dismay of race fans and teams alike. However, round two fell to the weather, as on and off sleet showers Saturday morning hampered track preparation, and with the forecast for more of the same and temperature dipping into the 30’s, Eldora and WoO officials huddled and unanimously agreed to cancel the event for Saturday night.
Eldora now stands 1-3 on the season, with Friday’s WoO winner Craig Dollansky and Moser UMP Modified winner Jerry Bowersock as the sole feature victors.
Attempt number four on the 2008 schedule takes place Saturday, April 19, with the Sunoco American Late Model Series, Moser UMP Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock Cars.

Rossburg,
Ohio - Monday, February 25, 2008
By: Mr.
Larry Boos
Director of Operations
Variety
and ambitious can be used to sum up the recently released 2008 Eldora Speedway
slate of events. The Tony Stewart owned one-half mile clay speed plant will play
host to at least six sanctioning bodies and see action for a minimum of eleven
types of race cars.
A long standing tradition will kick off the season, as the
non-winged Sprints of the United States Auto Club (USAC), make the first of
their three appearances with the Don Branson/Jud Larson Memorial, along with the
Moser UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds and Advance Auto Parts Stock
Cars. USAC will return June 14 with the annual Border Wars battle and then
September 20 as part of the Chevy American Revolution 4 Crown, that will also
feature USAC’s Silver Crown and Midget divisions.
Undoubtedly the fastest cars to attack Eldora’s famed high
banks, the winged Sprints of the World of Outlaws (WoO), move into Eldora
several times throughout the 2008 campaign, beginning with their annual Spring
doubleheader weekend, sponsored by Coca Cola, on April 11 and 12. A single night
show, built by The Home Dept, on May 31, leads up to the 25th annual running of
the Kings Royal weekend, July 11 and 12, with two full nights of racing, topped
off by the $50,000 to win Kings Royal on Saturday night, the 12 th WoO Sprints
will close out their Eldora tour on Friday night, Sept. 19, to kick off the 4
Crown.
A pair of assaults by the All Star Sprints are inked for
April 26 and June 28, with the latter being the finale of the traditional Ohio
Sprint Speedweek, sponsored by Best Western Dayton NW.
Completing the Sprint menu will be the NRA (National Racing
Alliance) Sprint Invaders and a return of the 305 Sprints. The NRA gang will
compete in sanctioned events May 25, June 14 and July 11, as well as govern a
soon to be announced July 8 special event, as well as the newly created UNOH
(University of Northwestern Ohio) and Sprint Car & Midget season closer for
360 and 305 Sprints.
UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) will gain by the governing
body of choice for the Late Models at Eldora in 2008. Headlining their foray
will be the $100,000 to win Dirt Late Model Dream over the weekend of June 6
& 7 and the annual World 100 during its traditional time slot, the weekend
after Labor Day, September 5 & 6. Additionally the UMP overseen Sunoco
American Late Model Series (ALMS) will see action April 19, May 25 and August
31, with the 2008 UMP National points titles for Late Models and Modifieds to be
decided during the Moser UMP Nationals over the weekend of October 3 & 4.
After a one-year absence, Fastrak will return with their crate Late
Models as part of the GM Performance Parts 40 on August 9, while the WoO Late
Models will make a return trip with the Subway 50 on July 25.
Unquestionably the biggest event of Eldora’s annual
calendar, the Prelude to the Dream, which features track owner, IRL champion and
2-time NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart, along with a couple dozen of his NASCAR
racing buddies in Late Model competition will take place Wednesday evening, June
4.
