Whipkey Claims MERS Carter Lumber 100 lapper

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (6) - The weather may have been extra hot at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday but also was the action on the track as the Carter Lumber sponsored super late model Main Event Racing Series (MERS) made their annual stop as well as a special 40 lap feature for the modifieds paying $800 highlighted the program.
The first event on the program was the twenty lap sport stock feature with Tony Cottrill and Steve Salyers leading the field to starter Mike Stapleton's green flag. Salyer merged ahead but fourth place starter Justin Miller moved up to challenge him. But by lap two fast timer Mike Miller  (14.901) was putting the pressure on his brother. Mike made an attempt to pass on the outside but Justin shook him off. Justin, the winner of the last feature continued to hold off Mike at the halfway point but leadfoot Mike came across the line in the lead on lap twelve. Fifth place starter Mike South Jr. then closed in on Justin as the laps wound down and the field lapped Cottrill. On lap seventeen Justin lost control coming out of turn four, spinning into the infield bringing out the caution and Justin sent to the tail. With three laps to go Mike had South right on is rear bumper but was able to pull away from South for his first win of the year in the Combined Racing special. South was second with Salyers third while Justin came back up to claim fourth and fifth was Mel McMullen.
Next was the first heat of the Oakley Blacktop compacts with Rodney Terry and Jesse Drook in the front row. It was bump and go at the start as the drivers charged into turn one. By the time they reached turn four Terry spun in front of the field with Drook, with nowhere to go struck Terry putting Drook out of action with front-end damage but Terry was able to continue. With a complete restart Bo Hoelscher shot into the lead as Terry faded to third. Chris Boggs moved into second while Tim Haerr moved up through the pack to third spot as the drivers finished in that order.
The second heat saw David Sagers and Chris Clark lead the pack to the green. Sagers took the lead as Bryan Lynch came on strong from fifth. At the checker it was David Boyle taking the checker first followed by Lynch, Joe Hoelscher, and Davey Shaw.
Midifieds was next up for their first heat with Jerry Stapleton taking the lead being chased by Gary Eaton. Polesetter Rodney Kreusch dropped back to third as fast timer Dick dunlevy sailed around Kreusch on the inside to steal third. As the checker flew it was Stapleton taking his first win of the year with Eaton second, Dunlevy third, and Chad Poole fourth.
Caleb Reschar leaped into the lead at the start of the second heat, putting some distance on the field. Reschar held on all the way to take the win with Joe Jennings second followed by Josh Smith and Jamie Brenneman.
The main attraction of the night was the Carter Lumber MERS 100 lap feature with twenty two cars lined  up for the century grind. After announcer Adam Mackey introduced the drivers John Jenkins and Paul Pelletier led the field to the green. As the green unfoiled the two ran side by side with Jenkins finally taking the lead only to see the caution come out as Doug Sommers and track record holder Chad Poole tangled on turn two with Poole Sommers both eliminated. Holding down second was Pelletier with Kyle Jones third, Gary Whipkey fourth and Don Mahaffey  fifth when action resumed.
Jenkins brought the field to the green for the restart  but it was shirt lived as again the yellow flew when John Stroble spun on turn two. Again the green waved on Jenkins with two laps in the record book Jenkins continued to lead as Kyle Jones took over second only to drop out with mechanical woes. Third place running Gary Whipkey was sizing up second place Pelletier as he closed in on him as they began lapping traffic by lap twenty-two. Jenkins continued to lead but the next two were chasing him down, moving closer and closer each lap.
Meanwhile fast timer Dick Dunlevy who started eighth had his hands full trying to pass fifth place running Don Mahaffey with Mike Stacy right behind. Lap forty five saw a change in command as Pelletier slipped by Jenkins  coming out of turn four to take the lead with Whipkey right behind and Jenkins running third.  But wait, here comes Dunlevy, taking fourth spot on lap sixty and then third on lap sixty-two. With a half a lap between the leaders and Dunlevy, Dunlevy had his work cut out as he slowly advanced toward the leading Pelletier and Whipkey.
Lap seventy put an end to former leader Jenkins night as he smacked the turn four wall hard  to end his night after an earlier excellent running night. This was definitely a break  veteran driver Dunlevy needed as it bunched up the field. With thirty laps to go the stage was set for a terrific showdown but two laps later sixth place running Mike Stacy was eliminated with a spin on turn one after a battle with Rich Rohrer.
With seventy-two laps complete the top five was Pelletier, Whipkey, Dunlevy, Don Harvey, and Mahaffey. Whipkey slid around for the lead on lap seventy-seven as Harvey took over second with Dunley third. Lap eighty-three saw the caution fly gain as Rich Rohrer and Don Mahaffey bumped with Rohrer spinning. Rohrer retained his sixth place spot  as Mahaffey darted into the pits to change a tire, restarting on the tail. Whipkey continued to lead but Harvey was all over his rear bumper but Whipkey was able to put a little distance over Harvey. the real battle was behind third place running Dunlevy with Pelletier, Tim Ice, and Rohrer battling for spots. Whipkey in the Carter Lumber sponsored machine claimed the win and the $3,000 first place money with Harvey closing in on him at the checker for second. Dunlevy held on for third in a close finish with Pelletier fourth and Tim Ice fifth.
Thanks to Jack Woody Excavating the Oakley blacktop compact feature paid $60 to win and $40 for second. Rodney Terry and Bo Hoelscher led the pack to the green with Terry taking the lead but Hoelscher stole it only to see the caution come out as Steve Barnhart spun coming out of turn four. On the restart Hoelscher pulled away building up a big lead as Chris Boggs ran second with Aaron Harshbarger third being pressured by Tim Haerr. Hoelscher weeded his way through lapped traffic as the rest battled behind him. Haerr got around Harshbarger on lap ten  and then went after Boggs. Haerr slid inside Boggs for second as he sought leader Hoelscher. Hoelscher claimed his second win of the year and claimed the $60 first place money. Haerr took home the $40 from Jack Woody Excavating with Boggs third as Harshbarger and Holli Eaton were next.
The final event of the night was the 40 lap, $800 to win Carter Lumber modified feature with Rodney Kreusch and Jerry Stapleton leading the field to the green. Stapleton shot into the lead as the caution  came out on lap two as Dewayne Snyder Jr. blew a radiator hose going out of turn three. On the restart Stapleton stayed in front with Gary Eaton Jr. moving up on  the outside as they dueled side by side only to see the caution come out due to a spin on the backstretch. Eaton again pulled aside if Stapleton as they swapped the lead. Stapleton managed to pull off the front spot with Eaton right behind. The pace was slowed again on lap twelve as Jason Mahaffey spun on turn one after contact with Jack Jones with Jones sent to the rear. Fast timer Dick Dunlevy took over fourth on lap fifteen as Mike Stacy came from way back in the pack to move behind Dunlevy. Bill Burba moved into second as Eaton faded to fifth. Stacy then went to work on Dunlevy, passing him on lap twenty-seven and then passed Burba for second and moved on the outside of Stapleton as they battled. Stacy made his pass good on lap thirty one as Stapleton drifted up into Stacy on the frontstretch and spun. Stacy pulled away from the field leaving Burba, Dunlevy, Jack Jones ,Eaton, and Josh Smith behind. Eaton appeared off the pace as he dropped back and with two laps to go it was a mad scramble for positions. At the checker it was Stacy who came from the tail of the eighteen car starting field taking his first win of the year. Bill Burba had his best feature finish as he was runner-up followed by dick Dunlevy, Jason Mahaffey, and Jack Jones.
Next Friday night, June 13, the ARCA Lincoln Welders will make their annual stop at Kil-Kare along with a regular program with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m. For complete information visit www.kilkare.com or contact the track, 937 429-2961

BIG NIGHT AT KIL-KARE
by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (5/30) - It was a big night of racing at Kil-Kare Speedway with the pits full of race cars and a good size crowd on hand for the ten dollar admission NASCAR Whelen All-American Series cars in action. It was also double feature night for the late models and modifieds giving the fans plenty of racing laps.
The first late model thirty lap feature was the make up one from two weeks ago with Dick Dunlevy Jr. and Sam Heckman, both former track champs starting on the front row. Dunlevy took command at the drop of the green and never relinquished the lead as he stayed out front all the way for his first feature win of the season Duncan Oil sponsored machine. Back of him was a different story though as a bunched up group of six cars battled each other. As the laps ran down second place running Heckman had the pressure really put on him with a bunch of hungry drivers chasing him down. Coming down for the white flag it was Justin Alsip, Tim Allensworth, and John Vallo  chasing Heckman across the line to finish in that order.
In the regular late model feature it certainly was an exciting event for the fans as Donnie Renner, making his first appearance of the year and Ricky Bates brought the field to the line. Renner got the lead with Bates second and Sam Heckman running third but like the make-up feature it was quite a battle between several cars behind them as they ran side by side. Sixth place starter Justin Alsip was all wound up as he started picking off spots on the outside to take the lead on lap six. Renner had secnd but here came Sllensworth and Vallo running side by side with Vallo emerging out and into second spot. Alsip kept his Charlie's A-1 special out front as he lapped traffic to claim his first win of the year. Vallo was second with Allensworth third followed by Dick Dunlevy and Ricky Bates.
The mke-up modified feature saw ninetee cars take the green flag with Bill Burba jumping into the lead with Jason Mahaffey then taking the front spot as he led Dick Dunlevy and Chad Poole lap after lap. As the front runners approached slower cars Mahaffey had the misofrtune of being involved with one of them that saw him hit the backstretch wall and out of the event. Stapleton in the Underwood Floor and Tile special inherited the lead and stayed in front to the checker to claim his first win of the year. One time winner Poole paced second with dunlevy third. Burba and Caleb Reschar rounded out the top five.
Twenty-two modifieds took the green flag in the regular feature with Ross Kligelhofer bringing the field to starter Mike Stapleton's green flag with Poole getting the lead but fourth place starter Mike Stacy was on the move. Stacy passed Klingelhofer on the seventh lap and then set sail for Poole. Poole in the Storco Construction special managed to hold off Stacy for his second win of the year. Greg Stapleton was on the move as he took over third to claim that spot with Klingelhofer fourth and Jack Jones fifth.
The twenty lap sport stock feature was going just well for Buck Purtee as he stole the lead over Keith Bales on the first lap and was pulling away from the field but once  Bales got a hold on the track he closed the door on Purtee and moved up on his rear bumper. Unfortunately his luck ran out on lap eleven when he spun sideways coming out of turn four and four other cars piled into him resulting in an apparent broken leg with him being careflighted to Dayton's Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
When action resumed Purtee maintained the lead but Justin Miller began closing the gap and with five laps to go Miller took the outside groove to take te lead and his first feature win. Fast timer Tom Williams slipped by Purtee on the last lap to claim second with Purtee third. Mike Miller and Mike South Jr. rounded out the top five.
The Oakley Blacktop compacts hit the small fifth mile track nineteen cars strong with Paul Holley and second generation driver Jess Drook bringing the field to the green flag. Holley took the lead with Drook following and lady driver Holli Eaton in her first Kil-Kare appearance was in third. In the meantime fast timer Tim Haerr who started seventh was on the prowl advancing toward the front disposing one at a time his opponents. By lap six he moved inside of Holley to take the lead in the Mahaffey Auto Salvage special to lead all the way to take the win. Fifth place starter Chris Boggs moved up to second but was unable to catch Haerr as he placed second. When the checker waved Josh Boggs was third with Tim Dilg fourth after battling Spriggs and fifth was Drook.

Kil-Kare Speedway Reduces Admission to $10

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (5/27) - Fans attending Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night will be in for a treat when they walk up to the admission ticket window as management has lowered the adult admission to just $10 for Friday nights racing program. And what a program it will be with no less than twelve event on the schedule including double features for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models and modifieds. Kil-Kare sport stocks and Muffler Brothers of Xenia compacts will also be in action for a full night of hotly contested action.
Defending late model champ Tim Allensworth of Coshocton and Fairborn's John Vallo have one feature win to their credit so far this year, a season that has been plagued with the uncooperative weather. If Vallo can pull off wins in both features Friday night he will be just one win away from the magic number 300.
Also, due to rain-outs only two modified drivers have tasted victory lane interviews so Friday night Caleb Reschar and Chad Poole hope to become the first two time winners this young season.
Defending Kil-Kare sport stock champion got off to a flying start as he recorded two straight feature wins but Shawn Stansell was home first in the third event, the Rich Miller Memorial.
Oakley Blacktop compact driver Aaron Harshbarger got off to a flying start like Williams but in the last event held Bo Hoelscher picked up his first win of the year.
Spectator gates are set to open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring a friend along to see what "grass roots" racing is all about and to witness the exciting action at Kil-Kare Speedway.
Up to date information on the Kil-Kare facility is available on the web, www.kilkare.com or by calling the track office at 937 429-2961.

Kil-Kare School Bus Event Victim of Weather

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (5/23) - Unfortunately all day sprinkles put a damper on the scheduled School Bus Figure-8 and Demolition Derby Friday at Kil-Kare Speedway forcing the postponement of the event until July 4. On that date all pre-sale tickets will be honored.
Next on the schedule coming up Friday, May 30, will be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models, Modifieds, Sport Stocks and Oakley Blacktop Compacts and the fans will see double features in the late models and modifieds.
Spectator gates will open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
For this extra special night the fans will be pleased to know the Kil-Kare management will reduce the grandstand admission to just $10 per adult for an extra full night of racing. As usual young fans 11-15 will be $5 and those under 11 will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
The next special event will be June 6 when the powerful Super Late Models of the Main Event Series invade the three-eights mile asphalt along with the modifieds, sport stocks, and Oakley Blacktop compacts.
June will continue to be a busy month as the following Friday, June 13, the ARCA Lincoln Welders will tackle the speedway in their annual appearance with all regular division in action.
It will be double points night for all divisions on June 20 plus the IKO Minicup young drivers will also be on the program.
The month of June will wrap up on June 27 with the running of the second annual Dick Dunlevy Sr. Memorial 100 lap late model feature along with the other divisions.
Test and tune will continue to be held each Thursday evening at both the oval and dragway starting at 5 p.m. with adult admission just $7 which enables fans to stroll the pit area of both facilities. A perfect chance to meet the drivers and crews and a great opportunity to view the cars up close.

School Buses Take Over Kil-Kare Speedway Friday

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (5/19) - With the area schools preparing for summer vacation students and their parents can witness what just might happen with the busses they once rode in as Kil-Kare Speedway will host the big six-wheelers in the School Bus Figure-8 and Demolition Derby Friday night. Some fourteen of the monsters will take to the tight figure-8 course inside the fifth mile track for twenty grueling laps and then to finish off the buses they will line up for a crash and bang demolition derby until only one bus is running.
In addition to the special event the regular NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models, modifieds, sport stocks, Oakley Blacktop compacts, and IKO mini cups will be running features prior to the school buses.
With the escalading gas prices making it more costly for fans to travel, Kil-Kare has lowered the admission price to just $15 per adult, $5 for young fans twelve through fifteen, and those eleven and under are in free accompanied by an adult.
Spectator gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 8 p.m. For additional information visit the website, www.kilkare.com or call the track office, 937 429-2961.
Test and tune is held every Thursday evening at both the speedway and dragway starting at 5 p.m. with admission just $7 per adult which permits them to roam the pit area of both racing facilities and meet the drivers and inspect the cars up close.

Accident Halts Kil-Kare Speedway Features
Stansell Wins Rich Miller Memorial

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH (5/16) - At last the weather man finally co-operated and Kil-Kare Speedway was able to get their third NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events in on a rather cool evening with a large field of cars on hand. However the nights events were cut short by a serious KOIL Legends accident in their feature when driver Toby Alfrey rolled over the outside wall and lodged between the wheel fence and wall. Due to time constraints the late model and modified features were postponed for two weeks.
It was a side by side duel for the positions in the first late model heat as seasoned veterans and former track champs Sam Heckman and Joe Hill battled side by side for the lead with Heckman getting the honor of the win with Hill right beside him in second and third was Ricky Bates. Good luck finally came Virgil Powell's way as he claimed the second heat with Kil-Kare first timer Scott McMillen placing a close second with Jeff Marsh third.
Caleb Rescher claimed his second modified heat win as he jumped out front at the drop of the green to lead all the way. Jerry Stapleton wasn't too far behind to claim second with third going to Bill Burba. Neil McClelland was a first time winner in the second heat as he was home first. Ray Muncy dogged McClelland but had to settle for second with Brad Yelton a very close third.
It was also a great night for the sport stocks with the running of the Rich Miller Memorial in honor of former driver Rich Miller who passed as a result of cancer last December. Hoe Hensel took the lead at the drop of the green but it was Shawn Stansell driving the Mark Heath owned car taking comand and never looked back. Mike South Jr. moved into second but couldn't catch Stansell. Justin Miller was holding down third as fast timer Tom Williams slipped by Miller but slid off the track giving third back to Miller. While Stansell enjoyed the win and South was second with Miller third, Williams came back up to claim fourth with Travis Digges fifth.
The first heat of KOIL Bandoleros saw Kyle Donahue and Ty Rose take the two front spots only to tangle with Donahue sent to the tail and Rose took the win over Kyle Weatherman and Casey Moore. It was a great finish in the second heat as Tyler Poe lost the win by a whisker over Charlie Stray as Stray claimed his first win at Kil-Kare. With Poe second Angela Donahue was third.
It was a tough feature for the young drivers as the caution flew numerous times due to spins, but when the green was out it was a furious battle as they jockeyed around for positions. At starter Mike Stapletons checker flag it was Casey Moore claiming his second feature with Clayton Weatherman second followed by Kyle Donahue, Kevin Donahue, and Charlie Stray.
The first heat of the KOIL Legends was a heartbreaker for Bryan Nuckles as with two laps to go in the first heat Adam Roberts slipped by to take the win with Knuckles second and Sloan Henderson third. Just like the first heat it was a Nuckles finishing second in the second heat as Toby Alfrey displaced Tyler Nuckles on the second lap to take the lead and win. With Tyler second many time winner Danny Jackson was third.
A two car tangle just after the start of the feature brought the caution fag out resulting in a complete restart with Sloan Henderson and Tyler Nuckles in the front row. On the green only one lap was recorded when Tommy Klein tagged the turn four wall resultin in a lost wheel. With Tyler Nuckles in the lead on the fourth restart  the red flag appeared when on lap seven Toby Alfrey's car went airborn out of turn two and rolled violently over the wall. The event was called complete with Tyler Nuckles declared the winner and his cousin Bryan second with Adam Roberts third.
The first heat of Oakley Blacktop Compacts was a three car battle for the front spots between Chris Boggs, Bo Hoelscher and Shane Sparkman. When the checker waved it was Sparkman claiming his first compact heat win with Hoelscher second and Boggs third. Second heat action got off to a bad start for Chuck Adkins as he smacked the wall hard, knocking him out of competition. When action got back underway Tim Dilg wasted little time to fly by his opponents to take the lead and win over Ron Sagers and Mike Robertson.
Tim Dilg looked like he might make it a clean sweep in the feature as he jumped out front ad led the first fifteen laps as the faster cars that had started on the tail-end in the complete inversion were making their way toward the front. Dilg saw his hopes of a win fade as Bo Hoelscher in the Hoelscher Racing special stole the lead to take the win, In the meantime Chris Boggs and fast timer Tim Haerr were on the move advancing toward the front, With one lap to go Roger Sloan Jr. barrel rolled off the backstretch bringing out the yellow followed by the checker. Dilg was second with Boggs third, Haerr fourth and Arron Harshbarger winner of the first two features earlier this year was fifth.

Kil-Kare Win Makes 295 For Vallo

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (4/25) - It was fan appreciation night at Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night as a near full grandstand took advantage of the five dollars general admission to witness the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events and they were entertained with another night of exciting events.
Opening nights feature winner Tim Allensworth and Justin Alsip started on the front row in the thirty lap feature which offered double points while former track champs John Vallo and Sam Heckman made up the second row. At the drop of the green It was the Allensworth/Vallo show just like opening night except Alsip made it a threesome for the front spot. The trio ran bumper to bumper lap after lap with Alsip on occassion moving up on the inside of Vallo while Vallo made several attemps on the outside of Allensworth.
A lap twenty-two spin by Joe Hill brought the only caution flag out and with action back underway the three kept the fans on the edge of their seats as they came up on slower traffic. Allensworth looked like he just might be able to hold off the determined Vallo when suddenly he dropped off the pace with mechanical problems to become an infield spectator while Vallo in his Gary Estes owned Bond Machine/Weiler  sponsored car sccored the win, his career 295th as he has his goal on 300 wins. Alsip was a close second while Sam Hckman had to hold off the pressure of Ricky Bates to claim third with Bates fourth and Bobby Justus fifth.
Veteran late model driver John Vallo, the "Fairborn Flash" lit up the crowd in the first heat as he came from the tail to just barely beat early leader Bobby Justus by .004 seconds. Justin Alsip was right in there in third and fourth was Ricky Bates.
The second heat was a great one also with four cars running right up front. Young Shawn Stansell maintained the lead all the way but the pressure was on him all the way. Eddie Simpson held down second until the finish line when Joe Hill slipped by him with Simpson third and Virgil Powell fourth.
Second generation driver Chad Poole of Springfield plans on being a regular competitor at Kil-Kare this season and Friday night he showed he is out to win as he claimed the thirty lap modified feature. Poole started on the pole with Bill Burba alongside  with Poole putting his Paul Storer owned Storco Construction  special out front at the start. Poole set a rapid pace with Burba running second but seasoned veteran Dick Dunlevy Jr. who had set a new track record of 13.743 in time trials was on the move as he put the pressure on Burba, displacing his on lap nine to hold down second. Dunlevy then went after leader Poole as he tried several times to pull alongside but failed, settling for second place at the checker. Burba was third as Jason Mahaffey slipped by Josh Smith to claim fourth and fifth was Smith.
Jason Mahaffey picked up his first modified heat win of the year in his Affordable Auto Parts open-wheeler, keeping the lead all the way but behind him Josh Smith had his hands full holding off the challenges of Chad Poole. Poole finally succeeded on the last lap to take second place with Smith third while Dick Dunlevy  was fourth.
Lady driver Jamie Brenneman in the Muffler Brother of Xenia special jumped out front in the second heat and was leading until contact was made by second place running Caleb Rescher resulting with her spinning on turn two. Rescher was sent to the tail and Brenneman resumed the lead on the restart with Joe Jennings in  second. Brenneman showed she meant business as she picked up her first heat win with Jennings second, Rescher third and Dewayne Snyder Jr. fourth.
Xenia's Tom Williams is off to a great start this season in the sport stocks as in time trials he set a new track record of 14.883 and then came back to record his seond straight feature win. Mike South Jr. led the first lap of the twenty lap feature but on the net lap it was Williams out front in his Muffler Brothers of Xenia car. Williams maintained the win the rest of the way as South had to hold off the challenges of former track record holder Justin Miller. Miller had to settle for third with Mel McMullen fourth and Travis Diggs fifth.
Nineteen front-wheel drive compacts faced starter Mike Stapleton's green flag with last weeks winner Aaron Harshbarger on the pole along with defending track champ Tim Haerr alongside. When the green flag fell on the twenty lap feature it was a mass mayham as the drivers battled for positions. Harshbarger led all the way but it certainly was not an easy win at all as Haerr in his Mahaffey Auto Salvage car battled nip and tuck all the way on dogging the rear bumper of Harshbarger, even trying to pass him on the last lap but had to settle for second. Bo Hoelscher and Chris Boggs fought for third with Boggs taking the spot with Boggs fourth and Paul Holley fourth.
The first compact heat got off with Jess Drook and Paul Holley leading the field to the green only to see the caution fly when Troy Patterson got tangled on the frontstretch and was out of action in his Jims Body Shop car. Second generation driver Jess Drook jumped out front on the restart and held it all the way in the Drook Service special as he barely held off second place finisher Aaron Harshbarger. Holley was third and Bo Hoelscher fourth.
Just like the first heat the second one saw the yellow wave on the first lap when Chuck Adkins spun on turn two. When the green waved again it was like turning a heard of elephants loose as the drivers took off like gangbusters running four wide through turn one and two. Rodney Terry enjoyed the lead momentarily but a hard charging Chuck Adkins took over but here came last weeks heat winner Joe Hoelscher to steal the lead and the win. Steve Salyers slipped by for second with Adkins third and Ron Sagers fourth.
A full racing card resumes next Friday night with the gates opening at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.

Allensworth Claims Late Model Feature Win at Kil-Kare

by Jerry Wahl

Xenia, OH. (4/18) -  Kil-Kare Speedway finally got the 2008 season underway Friday night after being rained-out the previous two weeks and what a late model feature it was as defending track champion Tim Allensworth in the raceoasis.com special had his hands full in the closing laps to hold off former track champion John Vallo. Vallo, driving the Gary Estes owned Weiler Welding car tried several times to get Allensworth, pulling alongside but had to settle for second. Earlier when the green flag waved Jim Lewis Jr. set the pace until Allensworth took command followed by Vallo. Justin Alsip, winner of the last feature last season was third with Sam Heckman fourth and Ricky Bates fifth.
Ricky Bates had his hands full holding off veteran John Vallo in the first late model heat as Vallo tried desperately to pass Bates on the outside but Bates was able to hang on unto the checker waved with Vallo second and defending track champ Tim Allenswoth was third with fourth going to Sam Heckman.
The second late model heat was stopped on the fourth lap when Russ Bobb hit the turn one wall after tangling with Ron Wells. Both cars were sidelined and when action resumed leader Bobby Justus held off the hard pressing of second place running Jim Lewis Jr. who made a last lap challenge but fell short as Justus took the win with Lewis second followed by Virgil Powell and Dewayne Snyder Jr.
Caleb Rescher jumped out into the lead in the modified feature while Chad Poole shot up to second and was closing in on Rescher when a multi car spin happened on the frontstretch  bringing out the caution flag. Rescher continued to lead after the restart  and then just four laps later Dick Dunlevy Jr. brought the second caution out when he smacked the first turn wall. Again Rescher held the lead on the restart with Poole again challenging. Poole just took the lead when the caution came out when Bill Burba damaged the right front of his mount and was out after running third. Again on the restart a determined Rescher held on to the lead but as the laps wound down it developed into a four car battle to the checker. Rescher held on to claim his first ever Kil-Kare modified feature win with Poole barely holding off a stiff challenge from Jason Mahaffey to finish second with Mahaffey third and fourth in the thick of action was Shawn Gray.
Caleb Rescher captured his first ever heat win  at Kil-Kare when he was home first in the first heat. Bill Burba was second with former track champ Shawn Gray third. Joe Jennings claimed the second heat while lady driver Jamie Brenneman did a good job holding off the challenges of Ray Muncy to claim second with Muncy third and Rodney Kreusch fourth.
The sport stock feature had a heated battle going between Mike South Jr. and former track champ Tom Williams until South's mount went up in smoke giving the lead to Williams who went on to take the win him his Muffler Brothers sponsored machine. Justin Miller slipped by Travis Diggs to take second and Diggs was third. Mel McMullen claimed fourth place while South was credited with fifth.
The first compact feature of the year got off to a wild start as no sooner than the green flag flew two cars tangled bringing out the yellow flag and then on the restart Tim Dilg lost a wheel and spun wildly bringing out the second caution before one lap was completed. Finally for the third time starter Mike Stapleton waved the green and Amber Sites set sail to lead the first seven laps but the posse behind her were on the move. Heat winner Bo Hoelscher took command on the next lap and looked like he might hold on for the win but Aaron Harshbarger in the Jim's Body Shop special had other ideas as he zipped by Hoelscher to hold the first spot until the checker. Sites had faded back to fifth but in the closing laps a couple of cars in front of her had problems and she found herself in third as earlier defending champ Tim Haerr had worked his way up to claim runner-up. Fourth was Jess Drook and fifth was Chris Boggs.
Bo Hoelscher got the Compacts underway in the first heat as he claimed the win while the rest of the field battled behind him with Aaron Harshbarger crossing the line in second followed by Tim Haerr and Paul Holley.
It was Hoelscher night apparently as Joe Hoelscher was home first in the second heat as he sorta left the field behind him just like Bo and again it was a battle for the next spots with Chris Clark second and Davey Shaw third.
Heat race for the KOIL Legends turned into a battle between cousins Bryan and Tyler Nuckles with Tyler jumping out into the lead only to yield to a turn one pass by Bryan who stole the lead and the win with Tyler second and Adam Roberts third.
Toby Alfrey ran away with the second heat after he passed early leader Travis Brayden. Brayden was second with a close third going to Sloan Henderson who was right behind Brayden with fourth going to Corey Smith.
Twelve KOIL Legend cars took the green flag in the 25 lap feature with Tyler Nuckles taking the lead while Sloane Henderson held on to second with Bryan Nuckles knocking on her rear bumper. Bryan got around her for second as the caution soon came out when Adam Roberts spun on turn four. On the restart Tyler held the lead but multi Kil-Kare winner  Toby Alfrey slipped by to claim the win. Bryan Nuckles finished third with Travis Brayden fourth and Henderson fifth.
Bandoleros driver Casey Moore cleaned house in his division as he came back from his heat win to lead all the way in the feature to claim his first feature of the year. Tyler Poe  wasn't too far behind in second with Justin Campbell third followed by Ty Rose and Zac Carter.
The Bandoleros heat race started with Zac Carter taking the lead but Justin Campbell took over on the second lap with Ty Rose moving up to challenge Campbell only to see the two tangle on the backstretch. Campbell was sent to the tail and Rose was sidelined with mechanical woes. Casey Moore inherited the lead on the restart and held it to take the win with Tyler Poe second, Campbell came to claim third and fourth was Carter.
As a thank you to all the fans that showed up opening night and to show appreciation Kil-Kare management will admit all adults to next Friday, April 25, events for just five dollars. Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing at 8 p.m.
